Well another day is over and we were blessed with great weather. Who said it always rains in Wales?
Started off this morning in Bristol and after successfully negotiating the Severn we arrived in Cwmbran at Gwent Police HQ to another fantastic welcome (photos to follow).
Then on to South Wales Polce HQ in Bridgend where we met ACC Croft and received a cheque on behalf of South Wales. It was a pleasant surprise, when Karen Fraser from our office in Stafford turned up to give us her support - and on her day off too!
Then after a quick refuelling stop (sorry Gary - but I am sure the odd Big Mac won't hurt) we were on our way to Dyfed Powys Police HQ near Carmarthen - mistake two of the trip, was the route the locals were astonished when they found out we had come via Pontyberen - I knew they had hills in Wales - but this was steep! The support van could only get up the hills in 1st gear and there was a suggestion we might need oxygen! It was even worse when I found out there were much easier ways. ( Another lesson on the need to look at OS maps and perhaps consult locally before we set off)
Anyway when we eventually reached Carmarthen it was great to be welcomed not only by Mr Andrew Bevan - Director of Finance of Dyfed Powys Police with a presentation, but also our Chairman Keith Turner and Trustee George Phillips.
Tonight we are being well entertained in Keith's house with a great lasagne cooked by his lovely wife Isabelle.
Anyway tomorrow is another day and Cheltenham (Gloucestershire Police) and Kidlington (Thames Valley) beckon.
Thanks again to everyone today who assisted us, the guys who joined us locally on the ride and any one else who helped us make it happen.
